For all mountain walks and the majority of our upland day walks and charity challenges you will be required to carry a compulsory survival bag and whistle. So if your taking part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks, Snowdon, Ben Nevis or Scafell Pike walks please ensure you have this life saving piece of kit in your bag.

These are standard pieces of Mountain Safety equipment, if any event states these are compulsory you will NOT be allowed to continue on the event unless you have them.

It is good practice to carry these at all times.

A Survival Bag

We are always asked what is in a survival bag? The answer is nothing it is simply a strong, lightweight bag made from a tough plastic material. Designed to reduce the loss of body heat in an emergency, the Survival Bag serves as a personal emergency shelter. The bright orange colour means it can also be used as a distress signal. If you are separated from the group you can simply get into the survival bag and it will keep the worse of the elements off you.

A Whistle

A loud whistle, made from a toughened plastic material, the Safety Whistle is an essential part of any outdoor or mountain survival kit. A whistle can be used to alert people if you are in distress. The internationally recognised distress signal is 6 blasts of the whistle with a 1 minute break and then repeated. The reply is 3 blasts with the same pause.
